The Nipponzan Myohoji
The
Nipponzan Myohoji is an international Buddhist organization founded by
the Most Venerable Nichidatsu Fujii (1885-1985).
"Tangyo
Raihai" or "To Solely Practice Bowing and Worship", from the practice of
the Bodhisattva Never Despise, who worshipped all that he met, knowing
that they too were ultimately destined to achieve the full wisdom of the
Buddhas.
The Basic practice of the monks and nuns of the Nipponzan Myohoji revolves
around walking and chanting "Namu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo" while beating their
drum as a call for peace in the world.
The
Nipponzan Myohoji is most well known for their construction of Peace Pagodas
throughout the world. They build these pagodas as offerings for world peace,
and think of them as "a prayer of the spirit made manifest in material
form . . . offered to the world as a symbol of global peace from the monks
and nuns of Nipponzan Myohoji."
