Smith College Dance Community Charter

I. Purpose

The Smith College Dance Community shall form, nurture, and strengthen a dance community at Smith by creating a place where dancers of every and all levels can come together and get to know each other through classes and social events. Smith College Dance Community, herein called SCDC, also strives to unite Smith dancers together to increase student voice in dance matters pertaining to the school, the dance department, and the Smith dance community.

II. Membership Requirements

A. The only membership requirement is an interest in dance. However, active members will be asked to pay a due each semester. Because of their contribution, those members shall be entitled:

i. To be able to vote in matters pertaining to the organization like Executive Board membership.

ii. To run for Executive Board positions.

iii. To be entitled to subsidized events/trips.

iv. To be considered for a teaching position.

III. Officers, Duties, Election Procedure

The Executive Board shall consist of at least the President, a Treasurer, an Advertiser, and a Social Chair. Optional officers are a Vice President, a Secretary, a Web Master, and a Master Class Coordinator. There should be at least 5 officers on the executive board at one time, with the maximum being 8.

A. President

i. To facilitate board meetings.

ii. To coordinate teachers (make sure they are showing up for their classes and behaving in an appropriate manner).

iii. To work with other officers to ensure that all events, classes, and advertisement are running/run smoothly.

iv. To notify organization about events and class schedule.

B. Treasurer

i. To monitor any transfers of funds, either from fundraising and donations or spending.

ii. To plan a budget at the date specified in the Organization Resources Committee guidelines.

iii. To be responsible for attending Treasurer’s training.

iv. To be responsible for filling out funding requests.

v. To collect dues.

vi. To set dues that are decided upon by the Executive Board.

C. Advertiser

i. To be responsible for advertising for each and every event in any manner possible.

D. Social Chair

i. To oversee all social events that are planned

ii. To ensure that there are spaces reserved for events.

iii. To fill out all required forms.

iv. To obtain whatever materials or goods needed for the event.

E. Vice-President

i. To act for the President if she/he was unable to do any of her/his duties.

F. Secretary

i. To record general or board meetings and send out the minutes.

G. Web Master

i. To maintain a website for the organization.

H. Master Class Coordinator

i. To contact and arrange teachers for master classes.

ii. To reserve the space needed for the class.

IV. Election Procedures

i. Elections will be held during general body meetings by active members and the candidate must get a majority of those votes and done before the date set in the ORC guidelines.

ii. If number of officers is under 8, any member interested in getting involved will be able to join the Executive Board.

iii. If number of officers exceeds 8, unless an officer resigns from position, a new member cannot be admitted to the Executive Board.

iv. The President shall be voted by the Executive Board and must be on the board for a minimum of two semesters.

V. Method to Impeach

For impeachment to take place, a complaint must be raised and after the person has had a chance to defend herself, the board shall vote on the matter.

VI. Sources of Funding

Sources of funding shall be from dues, fundraising, donations, ORC, and any discretionary funding that may be awarded to the organization.

VII. Method to Amend

All changes must be approved by a unanimous vote by the Executive Board and by a two-thirds majority of the SGA Senate.
