This semester, we have critically read and discussed various forms (prose essays, diaries, poems, and so on) of travel writings throughout the Chinese history. A creative, insightful, and hands-on travel project can certainly serve as an end-of-semester cumulative exercise to integrate and demonstrate our knowledge learned from readings, classroom discussions and critical analyses.
The travel writings we have read so far are all written after the journeys have taken place. An envisioning travel for the future can provide insights and inspirations before your journey begins. This envisioning travel project should be undertaken for the purpose of enhancing an impending trip. You should also consider what kind of advance research and writing will make subsequent travel literature. The prime beneficiary is the author–you, but this should also consider other travelers as readers who could benefit.
This project will enable you to cultivate your insights from the culture and heritage that is represented in this impending trip; and to build knowledge on Chinese geography (such as notable landscapes, famous mountains and lakes, and so on) and historical sites (such as ancient battlegrounds, famous temples and gardens, tombs of famous people, and so on).
