Managing Comments & Spam

Once your blog begins attracting traffic, it will undoubtedly also attract spam comments.

The easisest way to avoid spam comments is to turn on a plugin called Akismet.

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. Click on the Plugins tab on the right-hand side.
  3. If Akismet is not active yet, you will find it under “Inactive Plugins.” Put a check-mark next to Akismet then click on the Active button at the top of the list.
  4. That’s it!

Now comments that are “spammy” (either because of the content, the number of links, or the originating IP or email address) will be automatically held in moderation as spam. To look at the comments held by Akismet, click on the Comments tab at the upper-left and then click on Akismet Spam.

You can also change settings for which comments are automatically posted, and which comments will go to moderation before they appear on your blog. To check these settings, click Settings > Discussion.
