Developed in 1961, Smith’s Junior Year Abroad program in Hamburg has been introducing Smithies to Germany for half a century.
For more than 50 years, the Universitat Hamburg has hosted Smith students and faculty. Students can choose to study abroad in Hamburg for either a full academic year or just the spring semester (March through July). In addition to Smithies, the program accepts women and men from four-year colleges. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and the equivalent of two years of college German. (Only one year of German is required of students spending only the spring semester in Germany.)
Interested students can attend a Hamburg Junior Year Abroad presentation on Monday, October 17, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Hatfield 204. Pizza will be served.
Applications for the JYA program in Hamburg are due on February 1 for Smith students and March 1 for guest students. Anyone wishing to attend the spring semester only can submit an application by October 15.
