Profile: Thatcher Mweu ’15 of Kenya

Thatcher Mweu '15 of Kenya came to Smith because Smith "felt like home".

Smith College first-year Thatcher Mweu ’15 comes to Smith from Kenya.  Though still officially undecided, Thatcher hopes to study international relations and might minor in economics or Chinese.

Why did Thatcher choose Smith?  “Smith represented itself to me as a school full of opportunity and a great support system,” Thatcher says.  “Given that I would be away from home for the next four years, I wanted to be in a place that felt—even in the slightest sense—like home; I think Smith is just that place.”

Thatcher has settled into life on the Smith campus and has struck a balance between her school work and social life.  She has a great roommate and has become really good friends with the seniors in her house.  Her first semester is going well and she and her roommate have been trying different gym classes and campus activities just for fun.

Welcome to Smith, Thatcher!

Thatcher is an outstanding student and person. She lights up a room when she enters. She always has a smile and a laugh when she talks to you. I know she will be successful in any task she undertakes.
