This December, Smith College President Carol Christ is visiting London. On December 7, 2011 she will give a talk entitled Courtship, Money, and Imagination in Jane Austen’s Fiction to the members of the Smith College Club of Great Britain (SCCGB).
The Smith College Club of Great Britain provides its members with a wide range of social and educational activities. The discussion with President Christ will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, and is open to all SCCGB members. The evening will be hosted at the home of alumna and club member Liz Pinto ’58. Drinks and canapes will be served, and full RSVP and payment information can be found on the event’s webpage.
President Christ, who has a Ph.D in English from Yale University, has published two books: The Finer Optic: The Aesthetic of Particularity in Victorian Poetry and Victorian and Modern Poetics. She also co-edited the Norton Anthology of English Literature and Victorian Literature and The Victorian Visual Imagination.
