Fellowships and funds available for Smithies studying French

Smithies who are studying French have the opportunity to apply for fellowships and funds related to their studies.

  • The Blumberg Fellowship funds up to five students on the Smith College JYA programs who design a project to be carried out during the summer after their academic year on the JYA program. The fellowship provides the opportunity for students to travel widely in the country of their program.The Janet Mitchell Blumberg Traveling Awards were established by Professor Phillip I. Blumberg and his children in 1976 in honor of his late wife, Janet Mitchel Blumberg ’39, who spent her junior year with the Smith program in Florence.  Applications are due March 15.
  • The Baer Fund sponsors a student wishing to undertake a full-time internship during the summer after her studies on the JYA program in Geneva.
  • The Julia Mayrani Rees Simonds ’95 France Internship Fund sponsors a student wishing to undertake an internship during the summer after her studies on the JYA program in Paris, or in Geneva, if there should be no candidates from the Paris program.
