Students studying Italian at Smith are eligible for two prizes honoring their work. Entries for either prize are due in early May.
The Michele Cantarella Memorial “Dante Prize” was established in 1988 and is awarded to a Smith College senior for the best essay on any aspect of The Divine Comedy.
The Anacleta C. Vezzetti Prize awarded to a senior for the best piece of writing in Italian on any aspect of the culture of Italy.
Additionally, students majoring in Italian Studies or Italian Language and Literature are eligible to apply for the department’s honors program. Full details can be found online.
