Next month Alice Kaplan, an author and John M. Musser Professor of French at Yale University, will give a lecture based on her soon-to-be-released book: Dreaming in French: The Paris Years of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Susan Sontag, and Angela Davis.
The book offers a historical perspective on the experience of study abroad, and an account of the transformative role of Paris in particular for three generations of American women. Smithies should also note that Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy studied abroad on Smith’s JYA Paris program. In 1961, she sent a letter stating that one of the “most rewarding experiences” of her life was her Junior Year in Paris with the Smith group.
The Dreaming in French lecture will take place on Monday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m. in the Neilson Browsing Room.
