Professor Victor M. Vich, of Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Lima, will give a talk, Violence, Art, and Memory in Contemporary Peru, on Monday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m. in Seelye 201.
Dr. Vich has published extensively on culture, violence and politics in Peru. In this talk, he will discuss the work of Peruvian artists who have dealt with violence related to the Shining Path war and the Fujimori regime. He will also reflect on art as a form of intervention in contexts of violence, and on the role of aesthetic representation in the processing of social trauma. The talk will be given in Spanish with English translation.
