On Friday, April 20, EKTA, the South Asian Student Association at Smith College, will host a screening of Saving Face, the Academy Award winning film by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’02. The 50-minute documentary won the Best Documentary Short category at the Oscars this February.
Saving Face is billed as “a journey to heal, and a fight for justice.” Every year hundreds of people—mostly women—are attacked with acid in Pakistan. Saving Face follows several of these survivors, their fight for justice, and a London-based reconstructive surgeon who has returned to his homeland of Pakistan to help them restore their faces and their lives.
The screening of Saving Face will take place in Weinstein Auditorium, Wright Hall. Refreshments will be served at 4 p.m. and the film begins at 4:30.
