On Monday, October 1, Nancy Abelmann of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will be speak on “The American University Meets the Pacific Century: Notes from the University of Illinois”. Drawing on the findings of an interdisciplinary collaborative study, this lecture will address the University of Illinois’s encounter with rapidly increasing numbers of Chinese and South Korean international undergraduate students beginning in the second half of the 2000s and how this transforming demography is affecting ideas about race, nation, and internationalization in the American university.
The event will take place this Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the Neilson Browsing Room. The talk is sponsored by the East Asian Studies program, the Connections Fund, and the Lecture Committee and is free and open to the public.
