The  purpose of this site is to provide a resource for learning about the Northampton State Hospital, an historic mental institution in the state of Massachusetts. The Hospital opened its doors in 1858 and did not close them until 1996.

There are many resources on the web related to the history, redevelopment, and memorialization of the Northampton State Hospital. This website organizes these resources for easy and rapid access to archives, photographs, videos, and general information.  The hope is that the website will offer a gateway to the virtual exploration of the Hospital and its role in the history of mental health and its place in community of Northampton.
