AFRICAN STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (SASA): The Smith African Students Association was founded in 1989 and is dedicated to African and Caribbean students, as well as students from the diaspora. The organization promotes awareness of African and Caribbean issues, events, cultures, and food and while it holds numerous conferences, fundraisers, and parties each year, its main purpose is for its members to work together to respect and represent their different countries. As one of its main events, the group hosts an annual Africa Day at Smith College, featuring lectures, workshops, performances, and foods all relating to African issues and traditions.
