COOPERATIVE DISCOUNT ASSOCIATION The College Cooperative Discount Association was first started in 1890 and enjoyed much success at schools such as Harvard, Wellesley, Laselle Seminary, Emerson College of Oratory, and Boston University, that Smith decided to adopt the program in 1900. The CDA offered students and faculty a chance to benefit from substantial discounts when “purchasing the goods of well-known houses,” (businesses) selected based on their owners’ character, integrity, and honesty, and their “completeness of stock and fitness for student trade in the line represented.”
