NATIONAL COALITION BUILDING INSTITUTE NCBI is an international organization that works to reduce prejudice within communities by addressing issues such as racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, able-ism, and other forms of discrimination. Smith College became an official member of this organization when it started its own chapter in 1993. Over sixty members of the Smith College community, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators, were trained by NCBI associates in order to get as many people as possible involved in anti-oppression work. NCBI members help to promote the goals of their organization by offering workshops to all members of the Smith community throughout the academic year and by helping student leaders, such as head residents, house presidents, house community advisors, and heads of new students to become sensitive to issues of prejudice and discrimination.
