PROGRESSIVE CLUB The Progressive Club of Smith College began in 1938 with the purpose of studying current political issues in order to “take positive action in the spirit of American progressivism” and undertaking social or cultural activities around such political action. The organization was dedicated to the fight for “peace, freedom, and economic security” and while it associated with the Young Progressives of America, it retained complete autonomy.
