Founders

Before her death in 1870,  Sophia Smith had a vision for creating a college for women with the  “means and facilities for the education  equal to those which are afforded now in our Colleges to young men.”   With the counsel of her pastor, John M. Greene, she laid the groundwork in her Last Will and Testament for creating Smith College.

The entries under this heading include those for the key players in creating Smith College, including Sophia Smith, John M. Greene, early members of the Board of Trustees, and others.
