DIPLOMA CIRCLE
There is evidence in the College Archives to trace the diploma circle back to 1911. Photographic evidence in issues of the Smith Alumnae Quarterly and in the Class Records of the Archives show students engaged in the diploma circle at Commencement. The ritual had a number of different names between 1911 and today, including the “Great Ring”, the “Magic Circle,” and finally “Diploma Circle.”
