Some Kind of Portfolio

This week I have received more than one request for writing assignment innovations.

Problem:  the students need some means by which they can see their writing develop over the term.  How can they easily go back to earlier ideas if everything is on paper?

Goals:  to have a reliable repository for their writings that each student has control over and yet their professor can view the work, to have a flexible research instrument, to offer the students a storage location that would follow them outside of Smith.

Solution:  an e-portfolio was used.  Digication is currently being investigated by many departments across our campus for use.  You may direct questions to Caroline Moore, Educational Technology Services, cmoore@smith.edu.

Digication, http://www.digication.com, a new concept in educational software that is easy to master and simple to use. It has all the connectivity, file sharing and online publishing tools teachers and students want.

Designed by educators to serve the core needs of teachers and students, Digication opens the lines of communication by combining elements of e-Portfolios and learning networks.

This software allows users to create a community that can learn and grow both inside and outside the classroom.
