Rebecca Borgstrom
As her weblog says, "Rebecca is a freelance writer living in Seattle." Her fans would say something more along the lines of Rebecca being a huge success in the gaming world with fabulous writing in such books from Exalted as "The Sidereals" and a both witty and humorous weblog! A graduate from John Hopkins, Ms. RS Borgstrom says that it was Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" that has most inspired in her work "Nobilis". The fanbase of this game in particular raves profusely of this high-quality game and it's well-written style!

What to know what it's like to be a woman breaking into the gaming world? Come to Rebecca's panel to hear about her experiences, plans, and learn about the fasinating world of RPG-employment!

Mari Morimoto
Osaka-born and Manhattan-raised, Ms. Morimoto never strayed far from urbanity until she spent 9 years at Cornell. Actually, it's Dr. Morimoto, whose "real job" as a big city veterinarian often wars with her "moonlighting" as a freelance manga literal translator. She got her foot in the door with VIZ LLC through luck and circumstance, and since then has expanded her resume to include panelist (Anime Expo NY), panel leader (Anime Boston and Big Apple Anime Fest), and GOH personal assistant and interpreter (Yuricon, Shojocon). The highlight of her translating career was rubbing elbows with Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama, although as a child, she once had the great honor of meeting the late Osamu Tezuka as well.
Although the Doc's main appearances will be with the translation panel on Saturday and the Guest FAQ's hour on Sunday, watch out for her to pop her head into several other panels throughout the weekend, for she always enjoys a lively discourse among good company! Having had a background in cultural anthropology, she loves talking about magic, myth, and religion, gender politics, and pop culture… actually, she just loves talking.

The list of her works includes:

  • Di Gi Charat anthology manga
  • Dragon Ball manga
  • Inu-yasha manga
  • Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya) manga
  • Lum: Uresei Yatsura manga

I'm a freelancer, but almost all of my work is with Viz. I've been working since 1994 - part-time at first, now full-time. I also actually was born in Japan, and lived there for the first nine years of my life, so I had an early start on anime! I've always wanted to help make anime and manga more accessible to more people, so I'm glad I'm doing my part! I have also done one anime (so far) called Beast Musketeers!
