Ekta
means unity in several languages spoken in South Asia. Which is why we at Smith College have chosen it to represent us as a whole. We weave into the larger
fabric of South Asia our individual pieces of cloth, our languages, our
cultures, our faiths, ourselves, to make it the beautiful and strong region that it is
today. And so it is at Smith, each one of us
weaving together our pasts, our presents, and our
futures.
Ektas goals are
to:
- Act as a support network for all South Asian students of Smith College.
- Create an awareness and understanding of the identity and culture of South Asia within the community at large through educational, cultural, and social programs.
- Promote
cooperation and create a network of friendship and support with other South
Asian student groups through intercollegiate functions.
- Strengthen unity with other Asian and
Asian-American students at Smith while addressing our own needs and concerns.
