The Smith College Glee Club boasts a roster of more than seventy Smith women for the Spring 2009 semester. Director Jonathan Hirsh has returned after a semester of sabbatical, and the group is eagerly preparing Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem for a March 7 performance with the men from the Penn State Glee Club.
As the spring semester picks up, the Glee Club Cabinet is focusing on the legacy they will leave for next year's student leaders. Work is already underway on making the Glee Club more eco-friendly; Montage and Autumn Serenade saw successful use of projected, rather than printed, programs. Downloadable PDF versions of concert programs are available for the March 7 concert in case any members of the audience would like to print their own programs at home.
To keep in contact with our ever-widening circle of friends and alumnae, the Glee Club has also begin producing With Glee, a bimonthly newsletter. Friends and alumnae of the Glee Club may download or subscribe to the newsletter here. The newsletter is especially pertinent given a recent exciting announcement: to mark the 2009-2010 academic year as the Glee Club's 125th anniversary, alumnae and current students will be invited to participate in an alumnae chorus numbering around two hundred. The alumnae chorus, matched with a similar group from the University of Michigan, will perform Verdi's Requiem at multiple venues during a two-week concert tour of Italy.
