Happy new year! A new semester means auditions! Audtions will be taking place:
Wednesday, Feb. 2nd: 9:30-11 in Tyler 101
Thursday, Feb. 3rd: 8:30-10 in Sage 8.5
Bring yourself and the first verse and chorus of a song (preferably pop/rock/R&B) that shows off your voice. We'll do some range-testing, note recall, and rhythm practice, nothing scary! If you're a member of the glee club or chorus, we'd love to see you!! If you're coming to the Wednesday night auditions, call Yvanka to be let in.

Groove had a jam-packed semester! We toured to Hamilton, Massachusetts; our members performed at several glee club and chorus events; and our jam (Groove's Clues, a Musical Mystery Jam!) was a great success! Check back next semester for information about auditions and new gigs!

Tonight at 8:00 PM Groove will perform at the music department's Autumn Serenade! Come by to hear selections from the Chorus, Glee Club, and Groove! The concert will be Sweeney Auditorium. Admission is free.

This Saturday, October 23rd, at 8:00 PM Groove will be performing at Montage! Montage, held in John M. Greene Hall, is the annual Family Weekend concert featuring pieces from all of the different music groups on campus. It's sure to be a great time! Tickets are $5 for the general public and $1 for Smith students.

Come hear Groove at Arch Sing! On Sunday, September 19th at 7:30 PM, all the various a cappella groups on campus will gather under the neon lights of the Neilson archway and perform a few selections. It's sure to be a fun and diverse event, and we hope to see you there!
Auditions for Groove will be the week after, at the following times:
Monday, Sept. 20th: 7-9pm in Sage 16
Wednesday, Sept. 22rd: 9:30-11pm in Sage 16
Thursday, Sept. 23th: 5-7pm in Sage 9.5

Groove will be singing this Thursday evening at the Voices for Haiti fundraiser at Northampton's Academy of Music, and again on Friday as a guest group at WPI's ACapella Fest XVI [facebook link], a concert hosted by our good friends Simple Harmonic Motion. Come out to hear us!

Join Groove as we appear for the very first time at Silver Chord Bowl 2010! We will be singing alongside the Tufts Beelzebubs, Dartmouth Aires, NYU N'Harmonics, UMass Vocal Suspects, Syracuse Mandarins, Sonos, and the Northamptones.
The show takes place Sunday, February 7th at 2 PM in John M. Greene Hall on Smith campus. Tickets are $10 ($12 at the door), although we have a limited number of $5 tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis. These $5 tickets will be on sale in the Campus Center during lunch hour on Monday, February 1st and Friday, February 5th. If you cannot come then, please contact our business manager, Caroline Framke, to reserve some tickets.

Next Saturday, November 21st, Groove will be performing a short set at the annual Autumn Serenade concert at 8 PM in Sweeney Hall in Sage. As our members are scattered amongst the Glee Club, Chamber Singers, and College Chorus, this is your chance to hear the diverse material we sing on a weekly basis!

BREAKING NEWS: Unfortunately, our Nautical Jam has been postponed to Friday, December 11th thanks in no small part to swine flu (we really wish it weren't true).
It was an incredibly hard decision to make, as we obviously wanted to put on a great show for you all tomorrow night, but we had to come to terms with the fact that we just can't do that with half our group in quarantine.
More details will come up on this event as we work them out. We really hope you can all still come (and that perhaps some of you who couldn't will be able to) on this new date! Although Off the Record will have dropped by then, CDs purchased at the Jam will still be sold for the special price of $10.

Come to Groove's Nautical Jam on Saturday, November 14th at 8 pm in the Helen Hills Hills Hills Hills Hills Hills Chapel! We'll be debuting a handful of new songs, doing some old classics, and selling our brand new CD, Off the Record, for a jam-only special price of ten shiny dollars. That's right, our jam doubles as a CD release shindig.

Groove is thrilled to announce the impending kickoff of our first tour! We (+ our new Groove members) will be traveling with the Smith College Glee Club, making appearances in concerts with Penn State's Glee Club on Oct. 10th and Princeton High School's Women Choir in Princeton, NJ (Oct. 13th).
We'll also be singing with American University's On a Sensual Note on the 12th for an a cappella showcase! William & Mary's Reveille and Johns Hopkins University's Mental Notes will be singing too, so we would love to see you if you're in the DC area! The show starts at 7:00 at American University.

Groove is looking for new members this spring! If you are a member of the chorus or glee club, then you are eligible to attend auditions. Groove has an exciting spring semester ahead - we will be working on some additions to our ever-growing repertoire, including "Portions for Foxes" by Rilo Kiley, "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz, and "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall. We'll also be releasing our very first studio album this semester, at our spring jam (date TBA) in addition to recording some new songs during Senior Week. Want to be a part of it all?
