Penis Glossary

Base *** Glans

Scrotum *** Shaft *** Urethra

Base Where the penis connects to the body. Male condoms must be rolled all the way down to the base. This is where cock rings are typically placed to contrict bloodflow and maintain erection.

Glans, Head Some say this is the most senitive part of the penis. If a man is circumcised, the head will be exposed at all times. If uncircumcised, the foreskin will cover or partially cover the head. Foreskin can either be pulled back, or will retract on its own during an erection. If circumcised, this area is generally dry; if uncircumcised, this area is usually moist. On some men, the head is the biggest part of the penis, and has a "lip" on the top. During circumcision, the foreskin is sewn right along the edge of the head, so there may be darkened areas or scarring.
Glans

Scrotum, "sack" This is a thin pouch of skin that houses the testicles, or "balls." It keeps the balls at a nice temperature so that sperm are happy and thriving. Can be very sensitive to touch.

Shaft The shaft makes up the majority of the penis. It can be veiny or smooth. When aroused, it is engorged with blood which causes an erection, much like a clitoris.

Shaft

Urethra This is where urine and semen are expelled from the body. Bacteria can get caught in here, such as fecal matter. Yeast and other vaginal infections can be carried in the urethra and spread to other partners (or reinfect the same partner), but show no symptoms in the carrier.
