October 26, 2014
Today Smith beat the University of Hartford in our second shut out of the season, 39-0, earning us a winning season and an undefeated season on our pitch. It was a very physical match that showed our team's mental and physical strength. We endured to the end and showed UHA and our fans what it means to play Smith Rugby.

Another incredible win by Smith Rugby! The team really worked together to win 49-0 in the A-side match and 10-0 in the B-side match against Westfield State. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us and congrats to everyone who played, especially all the rookies who have worked so hard this season! And a special shoutout to Lily Pearl, Kasch Meier, Lily Williams, Hannah Meyers, and Liz Kneebone who scored their first tries! SHOOT THE BOOT BABY

Letter from the President:

Thank you for visiting the website for the Smith College Rugby Football Club. My name is Mitchell Carney, I am the President of Smith Rugby for the 2014-2015 academic year. Smith Rugby is a club sport that competes at the Division 2 level within the New England Women's Collegiate Rugby Conference (NEWCRC). The fall semester is our competitive season, during which time we play other teams in our conference with the goal of moving up to national-level competition. The spring semester is our unofficial season, allowing us to focus on developing younger players and competing in tournaments.

As a club sport, Smith Rugby offers many opportunities for leadership. We schedule our own matches, manage our own budget, purchase team merchandise, coordinate transportation, maintain connections with rugby alumnae, host social events, and much more. In recent years, the team has undertaken a number of larger projects - we host an annual semi-formal gala, a seniors vs. alumnae homecoming weekend in the spring.

Our success both on and off the pitch has been recognized both within our community and on the national level. In fall 2013, Smith Rugby placed 2nd in the nation at the National Championship game held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Additionally, the team placed first at the Beast of the East tournament, the largest rugby tournament on the east coast, in 2012. The team was also nominated for Student Organization of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

With all of these successes under our belt already, it is an exciting time to be leading this club. We are in the process of reviewing and editing our club Constitution, and hoping to expand our community service activities.Whether on the field or off, we are dedicated to improving as a team, as a club, and as individuals. I'm looking forward to the coming year, and hope to see you at one of our matches or team events.

Rugby love,

Mitchell Carney
