Our expeirience at Beast can be summed up with these :
Friday, april 20th.
Well, here we go! This evening the team will be departing for Best of the East, our Spring season Tournament. We will be competing in Division III, first against Brandeis university at 8am, then against Columbia University at 12:10pm. Even though we were hoping to compete in Division II, we'll hopefully get a run for our money with our new opponents, and as we play some of our younger players in new positions.

Letter from the President:
Thank you for visiting the website for the Smith College Rugby Football Club. My name is Lydia Bolander, I am the President of Smith Rugby for the 2011-2012 academic year. Smith Rugby is a club sport that competes at the Division 3 level within the New England Women's Collegiate Rugby Conference (NEWCRC). The fall semester is our competitive season, during which time we play other teams in our conference with the goal of moving up to national-level competition. The spring semester is our unofficial season, allowing us to focus on developing younger players and competing in tournaments.

As a club sport, Smith Rugby offers many opportunities for leadership. We schedule our own matches, manage our own budget, purchase team merchandise, coordinate transportation, maintain connections with rugby alumnae, host social events, and much more. In recent years, the team has undertaken a number of larger projects - we host an annual semi-formal gala, a seniors vs. alumnae homecoming weekend in the spring. Additionally, last semester two team members planned a 10-day spring break trip to Ireland during which 30 players participated in three matches and two training sessions while touring the country.

We have been recognized not just by our coaches and fans for the dedication and determination of our club members. In 2010, we received the Smith College Student Leadership Award for Outstanding Community Service based on our work at Red Gate Farm and with Friends of Jaclyn. In 2011, a team member received the Student Leader of the Year award after eight semesters on the board, including a year in which she served as President. The team was also nominated for Student Organization of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and we don't plan to stop any time soon.

With all of these successes under our belt already, it is an exciting time to be leading this club. We are in the process of reviewing and editing our club Constitution, and hoping to expand our community service activities. We are competing in NEWCRC for the first time, and are thrilled to be a part of the first independent women's collegiate conference in the country. It's this kind of innovation that makes Smith Rugby successful - whether on the field or off, we are dedicated to improving as a team, as a club, and as individuals. I'm looking forward to the coming year, and hope to see you at one of our matches or team events.

Rugby Love,
Lydia
