MEET THE CABINET

President

SGA President - Jinny Choi

Office Hours:

  • Mon. - Thurs.: 9-10 am
As SGA President, my main job is to be a liaison of the students to the school administration. I do this with the help of SGA at large. I attend many meetings that involve representing the Smith student body, and I run the SGA cabinet meeting. With the help and support of the cabinet, we plan events and forums to get more students to voice their opinions, and do our best to make sure those voices are heard. We have an amazing group of student leaders, and I'm excited about all the projects that SGA wants to accomplish this year.

Secretary

SGA Vice-President - Eliza Pope-Collins

Office Hours:
  • Tues.: 3-4 pm

As SGA Vice-President, I preside over Senate and serve as the liaison between Senate and Cabinet.  I set the agenda for Senate each week based on Senate’s goals and questions that senators have for administrations and staff about issues on campus. It’s a fantastic position to have because I can aid in the senators’ ability to bring student issues directly to the people who have the power to make a difference in Smithies’ lives.

Secretary

SGA Secretary - Rachel Licata

Office Hours:

  • Mon.: 12-1 pm

The SGA secretary functions as a liaison between members within the SGA cabinet. The secretary is responsible for recording minutes during meetings, the SGA newsletter, assisting many SGA Cabinet projects, and helping all those members who need assistance. Additionally, the SGA secretary is a good first point of contact for the entire SGA cabinet. If you have any questions about the way the SGA cabinet works, or who would be the best person to contact about any specific problems, the SGA secretary is a good first place to go.

Treasurer

SGA Treasurer - Hailey Bird

Office Hours:

  • Thurs.: 1-2 pm

As SGA Treasurer I am responsible for managing the funding of all SGA events and programs. This includes managing and distributing funds to individual student and student organizations applying to the Student Lecture Fund, the Conference Fund and the Sawyer Fund. I also sit on the Organizations Resources Committee as a voting member of the committee to help allocate funding to student organizations.

Academicboard

Academic Honor Board Chair - Elizabeth Tanner

Office Hours:

  • Thurs.: 6-7 pm

The Honor Board Chair coordinates and oversees all Honor Board Hearings as a non-voting member of the Board. As Chair, I also spend hours (yes, that's plural) every week making photocopies, just as many hours writing and responding to Honor Board related e-mails, create meeting agendas, and meet individually with professors and students that come forth to the Board prior to each hearing. Honor Board has become my life, but it's a good life and I love it.

Curriculum Committee Chair

Curriculum Committee Chair - Sabine Jean

Office Hours:

  • Fri.: 1-2 pm

The Curriculum Committee serves as the liaison between students and the Committee on Academic Priorities (CAP). We meet with them once a semester as a group. As the chair of the committee, I sit on the CAP Policy Subcommittee headed by the Dean of the college. The Curriculum Committee oversees the Faculty Teaching Awards that are given out at Rally Day in February. We also deal with course critiques and Celebrating Collaborations. This is my third year on the committee. In the past 2 years, the committee has implemented the Thinking Through Race course back into the curriculum as well as administered a school wide survey on curricular matters of the college. We look forward to addressing curricular concerns of students at a forum in collaboration with CAP later this fall.

Curriculum Committee Chair

Diversity Committee Chair - Maggie Chesnut

Office Hours:

  • Tues.: 1-2 pm

The Diversity Committee Chair organizes and informs the Diversity Representatives elected by every house, and acts as a student voice to the administration on subjects pertaining to social justice and diversity. The position is still being defined, but I interpret the role as a liaison that ensures that the resources and information held by the administration reaches the student organizations and student body at large. I intend to promote coalitional organizing and knowledge of student-planned events so that the voices of all communities are heard across campus.

Vice President

Elections and Appointments Chair - Catherine Leung

Office Hours:

  • Tues.: 11-12:30 pm

As your Elections and Appointments Committee Chair, I supervise all events pertaining to elections on Smith’s campus.  In addition to organizing the elections themselves, I also conduct interviews for those interested in appointment positions and I am a non- voting member of Senate. I’m so excited to be able to represent Smith’s elections this year and help with the selection of those who will help carry on SGA’s message in the future!

House Presidents Association Chair - Kai Devlin

Office Hours:

  • By appointment

As Chair of the House Presidents' Association (HPA), I am a liaison between house communities and the greater Smith community.  I run HPA meetings, meet with the Director and Assistant Director of Residence Life, and work with House Presidents on developing welcoming and supportive house communities.  The residential system at Smith is a vital component to the Smith experience, which is why I sit on SGA Cabinet.  As a member of SGA Cabinet, I represent all Smith residences and house communities, in order to keep the SGA informed on all house-related issues, concerns, and questions.  My job is more than a job; it's an incredible opportunity.  House community is my favorite part of Smith, and I get to be a major player in shaping that experience for not only my house, but for every student living at Smith.

vp

Judicial Board Chair - Julia Behrs

Office Hours:

  • Wed.: 1-2 pm

As the Judicial Board Chair I am responsible for running our student-run judicial system. Being the Judicial Board Chair has been a fabulous experience because I am directly involved in making sure that we, as a student body, abide by the Social Code of Conduct and uphold its standards. I consider it an honor to occupy this unique position on campus. One of the greatest things about being involved in the Judicial Board is that you meet really wonderful people - I get to work closely with the Dean of Students and other members of the Smith College faculty and staff.

Organization Resources Chair

In addition to allocating funding, the committee also offers help to students interested in starting an organization on campus. The Organization Resources Committee is here for the students and wishes all the groups a successful year.

Ada Comstock Scholars Co-President

Ada Comstock Scholars Co-President - Sam Young
