Hello from Northampton! This is a brand new webpage, started this summer (July 1999) especially for Duckett's entering first-years. The concept for this page came from my friend Claire Scott who created one as a HONS for her own first-years in Cutter House. She allowed me to steal her idea and make up a webpage for our new Ducks...and here it is! The most noticeable difference is the big ol' mascot at the top of this page, The Duck. ;-)

I'm Carolyn, your House President, and I'll be taking you through these pages that are filled with various fun and interesting and important things. Would you like to see what I look like? The information within these pages comes from many different sources, and it's not mandatory for you to know all of it. I'm just trying to put it all in one place, in a format that hopefully many people can view and find useful. So let's get started!

This is the front of Duckett House! We're on the corner of Elm Street and Bedford Terrance. On the other corner (to the right in this picture) is the Alumnae House. Further down from that is the center of town! We're in a super location. To the left of Duckett in this picture is Chase House. You can see the edge of a tall brick structure...that's the elevator shaft/stairway that we share with Chase House, leading down to the Chase/Duckett Dining Room. Across Elm Street (behind the photographer from the standpoint of this picture) is the Art Museum and the center of campus. Did I mention that we have a *really* super location? :-) We also have a small yard (on the side facing Bedford Terrace, the side with the columns). There is a big maple tree that turns brilliant shades of red in the fall. The yard is also a perfect size to make a snowperson!

	The Smith College Admissions Office This is the official page for all entering students. There's lots of great stuff here about Smith and being a new student.		The Duckett House Diversity Statement This is something new for Duckett. I created this, with help, and it's based on one that Claire Scott '01 created for Cutter House. I think it probably speaks for itself. If nothing else, it should get across that Duckett welcomes everyone. All questions and concerns should be directed to me.
	Important Dates from the Office of Admission Here's a page within the Admission Office site, with all the dates you need to plan your year. You can confirm the dates of Family Weekend with your family, plan your trip home for Thanksgiving and the Winter Break, etc.		The People That You Meet Each Day... This is a list, with explanations, of people you need to know in the house and around campus, what they can do for you, and ways to contact them.
	Smith College Athletics Department Go here for all the info on athletics at Smith...varsity, club and intramural.		Myths and Rumors About Smith On this page are some comments or rumors you may have already heard about Smith College...and the corresponding truth about the matters! Fend off those high school friends and relatives! You're going to a really good women's college!
	The Student Affairs Office This site is wonderful. You can see lots of information about each area of campus and about each house (though the information is not totally up-to-date), and all of the residence life positions on campus. The people in the Student Affairs Office are great too. Did you know that the Associate Dean of Student Affiars/Residence Life, Nancy Asai, plays on the ice hockey club team?! She's good, too!		Academic Life at Smith Got questions running around in your head about what schoolwork will be like here at Smith? Get answers to those academic questions here!
	The Dean of the College's Office This webpage is good! It explains the jobs and positions of each of the college deans. It has a picture of the Dean of the College, Maureen Mahoney, as well as her administrative assistants. You can visit her personally during her drop-in hours.		What to Bring (and What Not to Bring) The link above says it all...here are some helpful hints about packing up your stuff, and reminders about what's not allowed by Residence and Dining Services (RADS).
	The "Inside Smith" Page This page is a great central spot on the Smith Web where you can get to the web pages for administrative offices and departments, the online course catalogue, the libraries, the Chapel/Interreligious Center, and more!		Food Stuff! Are you wondering if the food in the dining room will cater to your dietary needs? We've got all the info here! Vegetarian, vegan and kosher alternatives abound!
	The Main Smith Page This is a link to the main Smith homepage.		Social Life at Smith Yes, there's plenty of ways to make friends and acquaintances, both on campus and off. We'll give you some hints and reassurances here.
			Northampton Life Northampton (or "Noho" as most Smithies call it) is lively and artsy. We'll tell you more about it here...there's lots to do in town!
