Smith College Ice Hockey Club Team |
The Smith College Ice Hockey Club Team was formed in 1995 by Jessie King '99. She began a club for interested students and players, and the club was chartered the next year by the SGA. (Soon you'll be able to view our charter online!) It has since grown into an established and popular club sport on campus.
Each season, we welcome many students of varying experience--some have played through high school and lettered in hockey, and some have never set skate in a rink before! Previous experience is not required to play on the team. We'll teach you what you need to know.
We travel throughout New England and New York State to play other club and local teams such as Holy Cross, Skidmore, Boston University, MIT, UConn and Wheaton, and the Brattleboro Women's League. We have two experienced coaches who help us run practice and work us hard--John and Steve--and we are indebted to them for their voluntary service to the team. The team can provide most equipment--you must have your own stick, skates and mouthguard (neck guard and pelvic protector are optional). Our home ice is at the Williston-Northampton School in Easthampton. We run fan vans to our home games--more info about fan vans is announced before each game.
We've already begun practicing on-ice, but if you're interested in playing ice hockey, you can still get in touch with us. Contact Co-Captains Brita Dempsey at x7413 or Amy Anderson at x6645 before you come to practice.
Practices times are on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. See the ice and game schedule for practice times.
