Of course, Web is Dead.

Actually, I've really got my fingers crossed for Mozilla.

| linkydink
I finally realized that AltaVista sucks.

| linkydink

Yes, the IRS is going to censor the Internet and the Post Office is going to tax it.

Come on, get real.

| linkydink
(from matt, who evidently refuses to blog:)

IRS to censor non-profit websites. but first, they want your comments.

| linkydink
that last post got me ego-surfing my mom's name (modified with "pepsi" for better results). not much came up, but this Investor Relations Magazine article was interesting.

"As for Moore: 'She's very reliable and a little less close-vested than a lot of the others...she's very cooperative and quick to return calls.'"

it's also fun to search for other people... didn't know you were so prolific. ;)

| linkydink
it's funny to me that you, timmy and i all have brothers the same age. and how different they are from us and from each other. (although my sibs and i are more similar than i admit to myself.)

also (to make this post even more banal): i love my mom's secretary, Justine. i've never met the woman (although i'm sure she's been told more than is healthy about me), but she's just so nice to me anyway. she even sent me a birthday card.

| linkydink

As a geek, I find it rather odd that I'll also be going home this weekend to cheer my brother on in the state football championship. He's captain of the team, now. Cue Twilight Zone theme.

What are some things you are thankful for?

My middle-class-white-girl-at-a-prestigious-institution-of-higher-learning status, my friends' endless love and tolerance, and the fact that I don't have to deal with any of that youthful ennui crap because I KNOW what I want out of my life!

What is your greatest inhibition?

I'm a prude. Well, not really. I aspire to be a slut then my morals get in the way. Plus I have hopelessly high standards for recipients of my sluttishness so I'm sort of out of practice.

When are you the happiest?

When I'm directing a play or maybe watching one that is really phenomenal--but that's rare. Also cuddling with friends and the feeling I get after executing a perfect cartwheel.

If you could have any one thing, what would it be?

Right now, a really lovely boyfriend.

If you could rid the world of any one thing, what would it be?

Unstimulating pop culture that makes people stupid, including yours truly. Basically, that means Britney Spears.

| linkydink

This is my very favorite picture of cmoore and me behaving with our usual maturity, composure and solemnitude. What can I say? We have WAY too much fun with the webcam.

Woo! I just made a link and a line break! ...The technophobic princess is learning HTML. Be happy for her, boys and girls. Anywhoo, as cmoore just said, this is my first post, and it doesn't have to be profound. So that's all for now. XOXO.

| linkydink

This holiday shopping season, think of something besides just your friends and family: think about how your credit card is validated.

| linkydink
re: stupid people

mm. well, it's all a question of your audience. timmy and i are savvy enough to spot these things. when (god forbid) i make a commercial website and try to Sell Something, then i'll worry about these things. but on my personal site, dumb people can suck it up.

meanwhile, i'm reading glassdog. in particular, the cats fei.

From the end of jrandom's linked article about "cybersquatting" issues:

"in exchange for large donations, elected officials grant corporations more rights and better tax breaks than citizens have, which gives corporations more power and resources with which to buy elected officials. Fortunately, both chickens and their eggs will make pretty good eating when mealtime finally rolls around."

Uhh... does the author know something I don't?

| linkydink
Study Says Sexes Think Differently

there you have it, folks.

(nytimes --> free login required)

| linkydink

"Cybersquatting" (how I hate that term) isn't exactly a black-and-white issue.

As for the domain craze itself, eventually people will see it for what it is: Tulip Mania.

| linkydink

No, cmoore, you're not dumb but some people are.

All I'm saying is it's a bad design choice that multiple links can be confused for one.

| linkydink
re. pretty:

Is that really a stupid thing? Giving cybersquatters the legal boot is probably way overdue. I'm just amazed at how ludicrously lucrative these things are!! Why didn't I get on the bandwagon ten years ago?

At least some of them have reasonably honorable intentions.

Either way, the ensuing chaos will be interesting... in that boring sort of way.

| linkydink
are you really getting me that book? woo hoo!

also, what the heck were you implying with that lead-in sentence? jrandom's confusing linkages == cmoore needs a web design book? i know it's not very pretty, but i don't think my site is complex.

| linkydink

Anticipating a problem in my last post (yes, each word in "some pretty stupid things" is a link to a different document), I know what I'll get cmoore for her b-day: Designing Web Usability by Jakob Nielsen.

| linkydink

Eventhough they have done some pretty stupid things, I can't wait to do business with them!

| linkydink

Look-up "inhibition" in Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Lies of omission are my inhibition because usually I cannot tell them even when I want to. I'll admit it's a very odd kind of inhibition, but I believe an inhibition none the less.

| linkydink
"Lies of omission" sounds more like a flaw than an inhibition... My greatest flaw i probably that I'm too arrogant or spacey or elitist or drink too much coffee or something. But what inhibits me, what holds me back? That's a tough one.

| linkydink

What are some things you are thankful for?

Friends, back-rubs and Eastern cuisine.

What is your greatest inhibition?

Lies of omission.

When are you the happiest?

Solving problems.

If you could have any one thing, what would it be?

Financial independence.

If you could rid the world of any one thing, what would it be?

Apathy.

| linkydink
why isn't sophia accepting off-campus FTP connections? bitch-ass punk!

i'm going to send email to eric jensen, the unix sysadmin.

must... blog...

| linkydink
that can be arranged, timmy... ;)

(ps - <2 days 'til my birthday! woo hoo! i'm excited! especially since the Girls have been doing a lot of secret planning-type talking around me. torture! agh!)

| linkydink
Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin' is such an incredibly classic hiphop album. I've gravitated to contemporary wussy hiphop like Reflection Eternal and Common('s recent stuff) pretty much by default... 'cause I consider myself more of an intellectual type, so I go straight for the "intellectual" hiphop". Today that shit's gone too far. Mebbe that's my "greatest inhibition"... I'm too fucking intellectual! Haha. Let things happen, quit all my bullshit analyzing and engineering.

"I'm not a murderer, just another prangster; Rudebwoy dead 'cuz he thought he was a gangsta; tried to live the life uv a hood from the streets, test da wrong dread now i'm in eternal sleep."

This album reminds me of the vibe that got me into hiphop in the first place. Straight-up gritty-grimey harcore blunted JAZZhop. Makes me wanna smoke pot.

tonight was Clubs Getting Their Pictures Taken night. for the LBTA picture, instead of holding up a sign saying which club we were, we wrote it on our stomachs. i was the B (obviously).

a side note for the smithies: there's shape-note singing in the chapel tuesday nights from 7-10. it is the most super-fun thing. if you have any desire to sing, go go go try it out.

I've put some rudimentary stuff up as my webpage again. Check it out.

| linkydink
I always feel so shamelessly self-indulgent filling these things out.

What are some things you are thankful for?

Music. Creative, intelligent, and/or loving people. My good luck. Bathrobes.

What is your greatest inhibition?

I consider myself pretty uninibited, but I think that's mainly some sort of defense mechanism because I definitely have some weird inhibitions. I don't really know.

When are you the happiest?

A really good cup of coffee, some excellent music, and a bonnie lass by my side. Toast helps, too.

If you could have any one thing, what would it be?

A really good cup of coffee.

If you could rid the world of any one thing, what would it be?

Mediocrity!!

There you have it.

| linkydink
What are some things you are thankful for?

opposable thumbs, bipedal motion, and literacy. yep.

What is your greatest inhibition?

i often think i'm stupid, and let it keep me from doing things i otherwise would.

When are you the happiest?

heh heh. i mean, um, i'm pretty generally happy. especially when i have a mug of tea and a good book.

If you could have any one thing, what would it be?

the voice of james earl jones. no, not really. but it would be funny, eh? what i'd really like is the ability to understand what people mean, despite what they say.

If you could rid the world of any one thing, what would it be?

misunderstanding. and maybe conservatives, if i was particularly cranky the day you asked me.

your turn, if you'd like.

(stolen from rev. jim's journal.) see what happens when you let me loose with the internet unsupervised?

| linkydink
oh. my. goodness.

some people are just crazy.

and they have poorly-designed webpages.

(not that mine is any better. but i can still be a snob.)

| linkydink
re: no shower

my new(ish) excuse for not showering is my dreads, although i've always felt little need to shower constantly (as the rest of our country seems to, hm?). are we gross? i think not. i think people should smell like people.

re: Shannon Kringen

good lord, that woman's random capitalization makes my brain confused. but i see what you mean about the breasts. i'm more of a diaryland fan, but as with any of these silly diary-type sites, there are the good and the bad. mostly the bad.

| linkydink
LiveJournal, like Blogger, translates trains-of-thought directly into publicly-accessible HTML. It's really easy to get hooked on reading these! Ever since a very tedious summer deskjob left me with far too much free web-browsing time, I've been sporadically following the life, thoughts and breasts of one fascinating Shannon Kringen.

| linkydink
Today I have an excuse to be yucky all day, because there is no cold water in my building. I have an awful sense of smell, so I never notice if I smell; consequently, washing has always seemed kind of abstract and alchemical to me.

i'll email her and we'll see what happens.

And damn, they were fun, too!

yes, i am posting an article on the election. i know we're all tired of it, and this one doesn't say anything new. but it pretty much encapsulates my feelings on the whole electoral college matter.

so i've jumped on the blogger train. i decided it'd be fun, and we all know that i desperately need another time-sucker in my life.

well well well. here goes nothing.
