I oscillate about the Matrix. Ben and I have argued about its mathematical significance (scroll down). Haas and I have argued about its cultural significance. Me, I think I just like the special effects.

so... if, hypothetically, you had just quit your job and had plenty of free time on your hands (and plenty of money to support yourself for a while, but not enough to do anything ridiculously extravagant), what would you do?

since this situation is not hypothetical for me, i'm thinking of volunteering at the Food Bank Farm and/or doing some programming on my own project(s). more interesting suggestions are encouraged.

re texas:
I can't decide if it's a good thing. I'm inclined to think it is, but only because tom tomorrow said so, and I have the greatest respect for the man. Also because redistricting (what they're preventing) is generally scheduled to happen automatically every few years, and it sounds like the Republicans are trying to force it to happen sooner, so that they can make it happen in their favor. I lost my faith in the big two's presidential candidates some time ago, but I'm not sure yet about lower-level folks. It's all very discouraging regardless.
re me:
running out of money, trying to find any programming work that'll pay me anything at all, trying to write a computer game with the goal of making money off of it, succeeding only at running out of money. My Kalamazoo sentence has another year yet to run, it looks like. I'm counting the months.

fuzzy! what are you up to these days? still in Kalamazoo?

kangaroo: i don't know too much about theatre, but i'll ask Toby and Co. for suggestions. my favorite play (other than the Shakespeare stuff) that we did in high school was probably Noises Off.

To civic planners in Glendale, Palmer Park has everything a
recreation area needs — kiddie swings, walking trails and infrared sensors concealed in the shrubbery.

The newly formed theater department at Norwalk community college is looking to preform a play in the fall and I was wondering if I could rustle up a few good suggestions, I am not very well read when it comes to plays, and I don't even know where to start.
Ideally I'm looking for an often-overlooked gem by a well known playwright, or something very new and well recieved. We're trying not to ruffle too many feathers beacuse we're so new and the administration barely tolerates us, but I don't want to resort to one of the ten plays that get done to death every year by high school students across America. We haven't had any complaints about our subject matter so far, but I wouldn't want to push our luck with anything that was extremely violent, sexual, or wildly avant-garde. I think we'll have a cast of between 6 and 12 people, and an even mix of men and women. I'll continue my own research, but if anybody's seen or read something that might be what I'm looking for, post it up or write me

I've been spending an inordinate amount of time lately watching episodes of Invader Zim. I suggest you all do the same.

'Some of the world's biggest record companies, facing rampant online piracy, are quietly financing the development and testing of software programs that would sabotage the computers and Internet connections of people who download pirated music, according to industry executives... (One) program under development, called "silence," scans a computer's hard drive for pirated music files and attempts to delete them. One of the executives briefed on the silence program said that it did not work properly and was being reworked because it was deleting legitimate music files, too.'
