linkydink "Great. In Bush’s first press conference since his decision to support a rollback of affirmative action, the first black reporter to get a crack at him–and this is what she comes up with? The journalistic equivalent of 'Mr. President, you look great today. What’s your secret?'"

linkydink "Like many college students who flew home for the holidays, I had to endure the latest airport safeguards in the name of homeland security. A lot of us have stories to tell, but only mine is a fish tale, a contemporary melodrama of the absurd to prepare you for future travel."

linkydink By signing the bill on the day of Hussein's capture, Bush effectively consigned a dramatic expansion of the USA Patriot Act to a mere footnote. Consequently, while most Americans watched as Hussein was probed for head lice, few were aware that the FBI had just obtained the power to probe their financial records, even if the feds don't suspect their involvement in crime or terrorism.

linkydink Why all this passion for ancient bits? You could dismiss this as nostalgia, GenX-ers pining for the simpler pleasures of their Cold War youth. But that doesn't really explain it, because half the people buying these games are teenagers at Urban Outfitters.

linkydink Aleister Crowley said once that the “magical” way to open a door was to walk across the room, turn the knob and pull and so — and I am being serious when I say this — the fact that you can basically go on the Internet and with a few simple “commands” make a book appear in the mail a few days later – that’s a magical act.

linkydink Bartlett says that some administration critics "such as environmentalists . . . want to use [secrecy] as a bogeyman." He adds: "For every series of examples you could find where you could make the claim of a `penchant for secrecy,' I could probably come up with several that demonstrate the transparency of our process." Asked for examples, the communications director offered none.

linkydink Were There Gay Elves? Why, certainly elves were gay. “Many Meetings” in FOTR clearly states that some were merry as children, while others…Oh. You mean homosexual elves. From What Tolkien Officially Said About Elf Sex.

linkydink cmoore. yep, it's lauren. we both had a moment a few weeks after i got here like: 'wait, i know you...' can't easily answer if the campaign is 'like that'... unless you mean, do the computer nerds live off leftovers and stay up all night long, in which case, yes, it is like that. (oh, is it 130am?) i spent a freezing afternoon carrying signs around in front of UNH-durham and screaming chants until i was hoarse, then scouring the campus for internet access to update the webpage with photos. if you are curious to hear some meat&potatoes from dean beyond all the rhetoric, listen to this recording of a speech in Laconia, N.H., last weekend.

linkydink Santa needs some sophisticated adult entertainment... cmoore: Yes, that is the Lauren Popper.

linkydink j.to: is the dean office really like that? and is the Lauren Popper mentioned in the article THE Lauren Popper of GHS fame? (does anyone else remember her, or is it just me?)

linkydink I would like to have Gumby and Pokey over for Thanksgiving. I would take on the responsibility of feeding Pokey the tofurkey, since he doesn't have thumbs. Than we would all go through a really big book and become part of that story. That would be a fun Thanksgiving. Happy New Years!
