JUST MARRIED!

breaking news: Big, Fat, Philippino Wedding in Israel...

Yes, that's right, folks! Noora Faith Parish of Juneau, Alaska, has finally tied the knot. (She was getting a little old for our taste, so it's about time!) On Saturday, March 1st, 2003, Noora Parish got married to Roel ________ (Noora will soon remind me of his surname, I'm sure) in a private ceremony held at the Baha'i World Center on Mt. Carmel in Haifa, Israel. The bride is 23 years old and a graduate of Whitman College. She is the lovely daughter of David and Snova Parish, and is the red-headed wonder of the Parish clan. Please feel free to write to Noora at nparish@bwc.org and congratulate her on finally making up her mind. I'm so proud I could just POP!!

The
hair--wasn't it romantic? Personal Testimonial from Close Relative:

"Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match..." hums second eldest daughter Julia as she tends the hearth and writes psychology papers at Smith College. "Noora has always been an inspiration to me," reports Julia with a straight and earnest face when asked her opinion about the recent nuptials. "I'm awfully proud of her for deciding what she wanted, and going for it! She is a strong woman and such a great role model. And she always smells very good, like flowers and...and sunshine." At this point Julia chokes up a bit, and the interview halts for a tactful moment. Upon composing herself, Julia takes a deep breath and reflects upon the past. "Noora is gone, but I like to think of it not as losing a sister, but rather as gaining a son. I mean, a brother." She's still a little flustered.

Noora is currently serving for a year at the Baha'i World Center in Haifa, Israel. She is working in the garden of Baji and has the blessed opportunity to pray daily at the shrines. Roel is originally from the Philippines and has been working in Haifa for 5 years. He is a landscape engineer or a landscape architect and is a "peach of a guy".

Julia sniffles a bit as she describes the joy that has befallen her adored elder sister, and gazes wistfully out into the sunset with a look of barely suppressed longing. Someday, someday your full-ride scholarship plus stipend and travel expenses will come, little Julia, and you too will be off to live your dreams. You will be able to get multiple PhD.s from all over the world while saving every child in existence from hunger, pain, and loneliness.

"Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match..."

So, is romance in the future of this blond-haired Huddle? "Well, I have always been the wild-child in my family, but I'd say that marriage is still at least 2 months away for me," replies Julia with a grin. "Justin might beat me to the metaphorical altar. (I say metaphorical because Baha'is do not have altars.)" Rrr-ight.

When asked what her wishes for the new couple are, Julia replied with a theatrical yet remarkably sincere sob, "I wish them all the best. I wish them troubles and laughter, tears and ecstasy. I wish them balance. On Saturday, a new family was created in the name of God, and with that family has been born a new hope for the future of all of humanity."

Noora, we here at CNN and all over the world are sending you and your lucky new husband all the prayers and joy we can muster. Now, isn't this more important coverage than war?

Noora
in the garden at the Chilkat Baha'i Center

Noora in her natural element--in the garden with the other flowers.
She's beautiful, and is a very talented green-thumb. She also makes the most amazing desserts I've ever tasted!

Noora and her roommate
Hannah

Noora attended Whitman College and graduated in the spring of 2002. She spent a semester in Costa Rica studying in a university and speaking in Spanish. Here she is with her room mate at Whitman: Hannah.

Noora and Maya

Noora and Maya are best sisters.
Maya helps Noora in the garden a lot, and they really like to go on walks together.

Noora

Noora has a history major with minors in both Spanish and biology. How much more diverse can you get?
At least she was never bored with her education. :)

One of my favorite pictures ever

I miss Noora. She is a very talented flautist and she sings like a bird (although it's difficult to get her to show you). Noora has so many things going for her, including a great (wry) sense of humor.
