Books and Authors That Rock
I have impeccable taste, so read up!
GOOD BOOKS
They are completely different, but I have two favorite books: The
Tin
Drum, by Gunter Grass, and To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper
Lee.
The first is a bit strange and a little dense, but it is a rewarding,
funny, insightful read. And the second speaks for itself. These are books
that you can read over and over again.
Other great books: The World According to Garp and A Prayer for
Owen Meany by John Irving,
Crime
and Punishment by Dostoyevsky, Marking Time by Jean Harris
(fascinating series of letters by a Smith alum writing from her prison
cell), and anything by Madeleine L'Engle.
FUN BOOKS
Well, some books aren't classics of literature, but they're sure fun to
read. These include MM Kaye
mystery
novels (do not judge these books by their covers!!! They look like trashy
romance novels, but they are actually well written!) and John Grisham
books.
MORE FUN BOOKS
My absolute favorite poet of all time is Kathie Lee
Gifford, and her book
I Can't Believe I Said That is really a masterpiece. No, really and
truly, I do recommend reading it, especially if you're in a bad mood. A
great series of books is the Snaps series, filled with Yo
Momma jokes.
MOLLY IVINS
Molly Ivins is an amazing journalist. Her columns are
hilarious, and she is so often accurate in her political observations. To
see what I mean, visit her
column on-line.
