The Midwest Page
Yes, I know this page favors Minnesota. Here are some great
Minnesota links:
- The Mall of America.
A glorious testament to tackiness and consumerism, the twin hallmarks of
America! (Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against tackiness.)
- Minneapolis. A site
produced by the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce.
- Tower, MN. I spend a lot of
time in the summers in Tower on Lake Vermilion. Tower holds the state
record for cold temperature (-60 F). Tower is rather typical of small
towns in Northern Minnesota.
- The Museum of Questionable
Medical Devices. I've never actually been here, but it looks cool.
- Mount Olivet Lutheran Church.
This is my church, which has the largest Lutheran congregation in the
country. It has the stuff of Lake Wobegon, complete with an annual
Lutefisk Dinner! For non-Scandinavians, lutefisk is cod soaked in lye.
(Note: I have never
eaten lutefisk, nor will I ever).
- The Minneapolis Public Schools
. They get a bad rap, but you can get a fine education at any
public school in Minneapolis.
- Southwest
High School. My alma mater. My sister Bliss is now a junior there.
Go Lakers!
- Famous Minnesotans. There are a
lot of them, you'd be surprised!
The Midwest (outside of Minnesota)
Midwestern phenomenon
- Country Crafts. The
ultimate in Midwestern tackiness. I'm not sure that country crafts are
unique to the Midwest, but such craft stores are very common in Midwestern
non-urban areas.
- Polka!!
Yes,
polka music. It's great fun. This page is about a polka trip to Minnesota.
-
Lutefisk!
