Salt Licks!
Ever since my roommate Annabeth and I got into
a brief discussion last year at dinner about salt licks, my interest in
them has grown considerably. However, they first piqued my interest years
ago on trips up to my grandparents' cabin in the
Minnesota Northwoods. On certain lucky occasions up there, I would be on
a hiking path and see deer visiting the salt lick. So whenever someone
mentions salt licks to me, I think of nature, tranquility, and happy
forest animals.
Last year I wrote to a salt lick
company with a somewhat deceitful purpose. I told them that I was
interested in getting a salt lick for some deer in the area, although
really what I wanted was some colorful literature to put on my wall. The
company graciously and speedily sent me an apologetic reply, saying that
they did not produce any salt licks intended for deer. However, they did
send some of the colorful literature I'd been hoping for, and a letter
suggesting alternatives for the deer. For more information on deer and

Salt licks help animals meet their trace mineral needs, and salt licks are
sold in a variety of flavors! These flavors include: honey and orange,
garlic, apple, molasses, carrot, mint, seaweed, white (pure salt), and
red. I'm not sure what flavor red is. Last I knew, red was a color, but
apparently the salt lick company is on the cutting-edge of new flavors.
In Nara, Japan there is a deer park that contains not a single salt lick.
My recommendation to the Tithebarn salt lick company would be to think
about cracking open this new potential market. If I were a deer in Japan,
I would probably prefer the seaweed flavor salt licks.
Enough of salt licks, take me back to home.
