Bio

Lucretia Knapp is a film, video and new media artist as well as a writer. She specializes in photography, digital and traditional printing, video, new media, animation and digital compositing.


Her experimental documentary short Swim Suit is distributed in the US and Canada by frameline of San Francisco, and was recently selected for Frameline's new initiative, Frameline's Voices. She has screened and exhibited in such venues as the Columbus International Film and Video Festival; Athens International Film and Video Festival; The Wexner Center for the Arts; the 5th NAPBiennial, Paula Cooper Gallery; PS1 Contemporary Art Center; the Directors Guild of America, Los Angeles; AKIHABARA TV, Tokyo; Eiszeit-Cinema, Berlin and most recently in Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, Italy, Paris and London. Lucretia's video Looking for Michael recently received 1st Place Experimental Short and is an Official Selection for CIFVF, 2011.


Her writing has been published in Out In Culture: Gay, Lesbian and Queer Essays On Popular Culture, "Cinema Journal" and reprinted in the second edition of A Hitchcock Reader, 2009. She teaches at Smith College in Northampton, MA and the International Center of Photography, NY. Previous to this she taught at the School of Visual Arts, NY, New York University and, for two years was a teaching artist in residence at The New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY, as well as workshops at Film Video Arts and Women Make Movies.
