Administrative

• TA lab hours announced weekly
• Lab hours (Seelye 411): Sun, M, Tu, W 7-10

Telnet

• If you open two telnet windows (two sessions)
• whoami (or: who am I) will tell what user is in each window.
• Do NOT use mouse for the telnet window (you "talk" to Unix, not with a Mac)

Pine

• create aliases (nicknames)
• reply, forward message
• spellcheck
• usage of distribution lists
• postpone/resume composition
• later: how to save a message in a file.

Files:

• On local Mac, stored on desktop, hard disk or floppy disk.
• On Seelye server (students can read but not write there)
• On sophia: entirely different system (Unix files) - later

File hierarchy:

• files in folders in folders ... on disk
• Create new folder (in Finder)
• Create new file using a word processor: next.

Word Processing, using Word for Mac

• Reading: Chapter 11 in Textbook.
• Word 5.1 icon on Seelye server
  • (later Word 6 on PC/Windows 95)

File menu:

• Create a New file
• Open an existing file
• Save a file(careful where!)
• Print

Edit menu

• Cut, copy and paste
• The clipboard
• Undo

Formatting the text

• Fonts, sizes, bold face and italic.
• Alligning and centering
• Two columns
• Double spaced

Viewing the document

• Normal view
• Outline view
• Paragraph and other special signs

Inserting special objects

• Pictures (new)
• Tables. Borders.
• Annotations
