Sylvia Lewis, Class of 1974

Sylvia Lewis, Smith class of 1974 was a member of the Black Students Alliance and was part of a very active student group instrumental in the formation of the African American studies program.  In this video excerpt she discusses her experiences as a campus activist.   From the Smith College Alumne Oral History Project.

Women’s Liberation march, NYC, 1970

Selections of 16mm film footage shot by Noel Phyllis Birkby (1932-94), architect, filmmaker, lesbian activist, feminist, and teacher. Her papers provide significant documentation of the women’s movement, gay and lesbian activism, and lesbian culture in New York City, circa 1970s to 1990s.
