I was born in the Netherlands to Dutch parents. We moved to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia when I was 7. We livDutch Flag over watered in various parts of Virginia before settling outside Washington, D.C.

As a Virginia resident, I attended James Madison University for my undergraduate education. After taking every pure mathematics course there offered,  I realizing that I was hooked and couldn’t wait to delve deeper into the pure mathematics. Thanks to a recommendation from my professor Gary Peterson, I applied to Wake Forest University.

So, I moved to North Carolina. While at Wake Forest, I had the pleasure of working with Fred Howard and Kenneth Berenhaut in Number Theory. It was Fred who set me up to work with the amazing Helen G. Grundman at Bryn Mawr College.

While in Pennsylvania working on my Ph.D., I married my college sweetheart, Erik and had our daughter, Aedlin and became a proud United States Citizen. d002771f-69a7-4e9a-823f-ea84af85cb4dUnder the direction of Helen, I earned my doctorate and achieved my life long goal of becoming a college professor. I taught at Pennsylvania State University Abington before moving to teach at Smith College.

Now, I’m in Massachusetts, learning from my students and from the knowledgable faculty around me to improve my teaching.
