Graduate alumna presenting lecture in Sri Lanka

This week, Dr. Sriyanie Miththapala ’87 will be presenting the 31st monthly Lecture of the National Trust of Sri Lanka.

Nymphaea pubescens (pictured) is a species of water lily native to Sri Lanka.

Along with Dr. Siril Wijesundara—who will give an illustrated talk presenting An Overview of the Flowering Plants of Sri Lanka—and Dr Janaki Galappatti —who will close the session with some comments about safeguarding Sri Lanka’s plants—Dr. Miththapala will present a short overview of an upcoming National Trust book Some flowering plants commonly encountered in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Miththapala studied biology at the University of Colombo before receiving her MA in Biology at Smith College. She also earned her PhD in Wildlife and Range Sciences from the University of Florida.

The lecture is open to the public and will be held at the Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, No 80 Galle Road, Colombo 3 at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28.
