Earlier this month Smith College learned that a 19th Fulbright Fellowship has been awarded to a recent graduate.
Katey Pillars ’11, will be joining 18 other Smithies as a Fulbright Fellow this year. Katey will be studying the “role of Soviet-era Estonia as a bridge between East and West, and an incubator of intellectual innovation in the shadow of the Iron Curtain.”
Smith leads the nation among all top-ranking higher educational institutions–including the Ivy League universities–in its success rate (ratio of winners to applicants). This year the college achieved a 47.5% success rate from 40 applicants, which is more than 2.5 times the national average of 17% or about one Fellow for every six applicants. At Smith, virtually every other applicant was named a Fulbright Fellow.
