Geneva JYA program accepting applications for 2012-2013

Smith’s Junior Year Abroad program in Geneva is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 academic year. Students may choose from three program tracks and can study abroad for a semester or full academic year.

Students participating in the Geneva JYA program can choose to study in either English or French. Participants choosing Track A, will participate in an International Internship Semester, and will intern at an international organization three or four days each week. Students on Track A will also take university courses and study French language.

Track B offers University Studies in either French or English. Students with the equivalent of two years of college French may participate in the program for a semester or full year, while students with only one year of French may participate during the spring semester only.

The final track offers an Advanced Program in International Studies and Development. Track C allows students to enroll in graduate level courses in development, government, international relations, and more at the Institut de Hautes Etudes Internationales et du Développement and other courses through Smith or the University of Geneva. It is a full-year program for students with at least two years of French and a 3.5 GPA.

Any student interested in the program is invited to attend a JYA Geneva info session on November 15 at 5 p.m. in the Global Studies Center in Wright Hall. Applications are due on February 1 for students applying for either the fall semester or a full academic year. Students applying for the spring semester only must get their applications in by March 1. Men and women from four-year colleges with GPAs of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply for the program.
