Last Friday, the GrécourtGate reported that eight students participating in Smith’s JYA Florence program ran in September’s Corri la Vita, an annual walk and run to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.  This “run for life” attracts participants of all kinds including athletes and non-athletes, families and marathon runners.  To appeal to all participants, the event features two routes that differ in length and difficulty.

The Smithies and other Corri la Vita participants were cheered on by large crowds throughout the race.  Joselina Tejada ’13 was impressed by the number of people attending the event.   She said, “I was so impressed.  It was really great seeing the Florentine community come together to support such a noble cause. Even though the streets were really crowded, everything went by smoothly…. Overall it was a very pleasant walk.”

This year’s JYA Florence students have been busy taking classes, soaking up what it’s like to live Italy, participating in events with Smith alumnae, and now taking part in Corri la Vita. Any student wishing to study abroad in Florence during the 2012-2013 academic year must apply by February 1.
