International Experience Grants allow Smithies to explore the world

During summer 2011, these Smith students traveled to Cambodia (to teach dance), Singapore (to improve banking databases), and Thailand (to participate in a medical internship) using International Experience Grants.

Because Smith College values the importance of providing educational opportunities beyond the classroom, students at the college are encouraged to participate in study, research, service, and internship opportunities outside the United States. To help students take advantage of these opportunities, Smith provides International Experience Grants (IEGs) that provide partial funding toward the cost of an international experience.

Smith students are eligible to apply for IEGs to participate in international experiences during either the summer or the January term (J-term). The grants are typically awarded in amounts of $500-$2,000 for study, research, service, and unpaid internships abroad.

Applications for J-term International Experience Grants were due in October, but students wishing to apply for funding for summer opportunities have until March 15.
