Opportunity for student ambassadors at Korea Expo

Smith’s East Asian Studies department is offering students an opportunity to serve as student ambassadors at this summer’s Korea Expo.

Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea is an International Exposition recognized by the Bureau of International Expositions.  The expo, with the theme “The Living Ocean and Coast”, will be held in Yeosu, South Korea from May 12 to August 12, 2012.  Organizers expect 8 million visitors and anticipate that more than 100 countries and organizations will participate in the event.

Students are invited to apply to participate in the event through the University of Virginia Student Ambassador Program. These ambassadors will “act as the face of the United States” and be responsible for various duties at the USA Pavilion. Students will interact with visitors, government officials, and dignitaries.

In order to apply, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be current students or recent graduates. Applicants must also have Korean language proficiency, experience in public relations, well developed interpersonal skills, and a positive outlook on social and cultural diversity.

Applications can be found on the University of Virginia website and are due by February 10, 2012.
