Yesterday, news of the new Anita Volz Wien ’62 Global Scholars Fund was announced. The fund will provide merit-based awards of up to $15,000 for students who are U.S. citizens to study and intern in non-English speaking countries. The fund is intended to encourage talented Smithies to enhance their understanding of global perspectives through study and service in an international setting.
Because the award is merit-based, all eligible Smith students are encouraged to apply regardless of financial aid status. Scholarships will be awarded for as much as $10,000 for the academic year, $5,000 for a single semester, $3,500 as an internship stipend, and reimbursements of up to $1,500 for travel expenses.
Applications for the Anita Volz Wien ‘62 Global Scholars Fund (Wien Global Scholars) are available online and through the Office for International Study. Anyone wishing to apply for spring 2012 needs to submit an application no later than March 15, 2012. Anyone applying for the 2012-13 academic year has until April 16, 2012.
