A public lecture by Tomoaki Ishigaki, Counsellor at the Japanese Permanent Mission of the United Nations is scheduled for Monday, February 20 at 7 p.m. His talk, Japan’s Multilateral Diplomacy after 3/11: A View from the United Nations, will discuss the impact of the 3/11 “triple disaster” on domestic politics, relations with Asian neighbors, and U.S.-Japan relations under the current cabinet of Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.
Ishigaki is a graduate of Amherst College and has served as Principle Deputy Director of the North America Bureau, including a one year assignment to the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan.
The talk is sponsored by the Program in East Asian Studies and the Department of Government at Smith College and willl be held in Seelye Hall.
