This Thursday, Susan Seizer will present Comedy in Two Contexts: Surprising Continuities between Special Drama in South India and Road Comedy in Southern Indiana, a lecture comparing comedic performances by Tamil Special Drama artists and American road comics.
Seizer, who is an associate professor of anthropology for the Department of Communication and Culture at Indiana University, will “reveal that the social networks and organizational practices of artists in these performance genres reflect on each other in rich ways.” The lecture will also feature Seizer’s documentary video work and will compare these two circuits of live comedic performance for what they might reveal about cultural values both within and beyond the comedic context.
The lecture takes place Thursday, March 29 at 4:30 p.m. in Seelye 106.
Seizer is also the featured guest at Thursday’s Global Salon in the Global Studies Center from noon to 1 p.m. A pizza lunch will be served.
